How to follow the World Beach Sprints Finals

What is Beach Sprints?

Beach Sprints is a new and exciting format of racing where rowers sprint along the beach to their boats, row 250m out to sea in a slalom around three buoys, row back to the beach and sprint to the finish line. There are three classes: solo (single sculls), mixed double sculls and mixed coxed quadruple sculls.

Where and when is it taking place?

The first ever World Beach Sprints finals is taking place this weekend (25-27 November) in Shenzhen, China. Find out more at the World Rowing website.


Who is in the GB squad?

Jerry Owen (Fishguard and Goodwick Jemima Rowing Club) and Robyn Hart-Winks (University of London BC) will compete in the men’s and women’s solos respectively, while Kieran Brown (Tideway Scullers School) and Gillian Mara (Warwick Boat Club) form the crew for the mixed double sculls. All four scullers and cox Kate Parkinson (Warwick Boat Club) will then team up for the mixed coxed quadruple sculls.

How can I follow the racing?

As well as live event updates, start lists, schedules and results, head to to watch the racing live between 06:25 and 08:30 BST on Saturday and between 05:55 and 08:40 on Sunday.

When are GB in action?

The event will start with time trials on Friday (02:00-04:40 BST) before the repechages and finals on Saturday and Sunday:


06:25-07:30 BST: Repechages and finals for mixed double sculls (Kieran Brown and Gillian Mara)

07:35-08:10: Repechages and finals for mixed coxed quadruple sculls (Jerry Owen, Robyn Hart-Winks, Kieran Brown, Gillian Mara and Kate Parkinson)


06:00-06:30: Repechages for women’s and men’s solos (Robyn Hart-Winks and Jerry Owen)

06:34-07:30: Finals for men’s solos

07:30-08:30: Finals for women’s solos
