British Rowing Director of Membership and Rowing Community, Marieke Hagemans said: “The objective of reviewing our insurance policies was to make sure we offer the best combination of value, level of cover and service for everyone involved in our sport. Improving the insurance cover for all types of rowing is a priority for British Rowing and I am really pleased to have Marsh Sport on board and look forward to working with them. I’d like to thank Howden, our outgoing insurance broker, for their many years of service to the sport.”

Natalie Wale, Head of National Governing Bodies at Marsh Sport said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be working alongside British Rowing as their appointed insurance broker. Our primary focus will be to deliver value to members through the provision of a robust insurance programme, combined with accessible support and guidance to suit the diverse needs of the rowing community. We look forward to implementing new initiatives with the aim to enhance the level of protection and increase the options available.”

Later this year we will be in touch with community rowing clubs across the country as we look to develop a new group insurance scheme that affiliated clubs can opt into as part of their annual affiliation process. This will help us deliver value for our clubs as well as actively promote safe practices, one of our key strategic objectives.

With this insurance renewal we’ve ironed out a few queries about specific types of rowing and competitions. All information can soon be found on a new dedicated insurance microsite, but in the meantime, please direct any insurance enquiries to or get in touch via

We have created an insurance scenario document to provide greater clarity on cover that individuals receive through British Rowing or their club. Insurance related queries can be nuanced and as such we will update the scenario document in response. The common insurance scenario document can be viewed here.
