Only 12 months after she first attended a Para-rowing Talent ID day, Ellen Buttrick became a World Champion in the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four. She went on to become Olympic Champion.

She subsequently defended her title at the 2019 and 2021 World Rowing Championships, before becoming Olympic Champion at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Beyond the Boat

Before joining the Great Britain Rowing Team Ellen studied Geography at Northumbria University and following graduation enjoyed working in the UK and Europe. She enjoys spending time outdoors, with friends and family, visiting new places and gaining knowledge and skills.

Alongside her training, Ellen supports refugees and asylum seekers across the Thames Valley with the Oxford based charity, Sanctuary Hosting. She also volunteers with Girlguiding UK, where she has been a member since joining Brownies, aged 7.
