GB Rowing Teams’ Williams and Reeve help launch Siemens Stroke for Stroke week

GB Rowing Team Members Rob Williams and Louisa Reeve have helped Siemens and The Stroke Association launch the fourth annual Stroke for Stroke campaign which challenge members of the public to row 10km or more to help raise vital funds.
World lightweight men’s four champion Wiliams and Beijing Olympic finalist Reeve have passed on their top training tips to keep people motivated as they train for the Challenge which also bids to raise awareness of stroke and to highlight the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise, such as rowing, in its prevention.
This year’s campaign runs between January 24 and 30, 2011 and is a joint initiative by Siemens – the High Performance Partner of GB Rowing – and the Stroke Association.  In its fourth year, the Challenge has already raised over £120,000 to date.
The timing of the event at the end of January means that anyone looking to get back in shape after the festive season still has time to warm up and shift those Christmas pounds before taking on the 10km rowing challenge.  The campaign is open to everyone across the UK by visiting www.strokeforstroke.co.uk.
Even those who can’t take part directly can still do their bit to help by visiting www.strokeforstroke.co.uk and sponsoring their colleagues or friends and family.
Andreas J. Goss, chief executive of Siemens in the UK, said: “Stroke is the UK’s second biggest killer and contrary to popular belief it can affect people of any age. Siemens is delighted to be able to use our partnership with the GB Rowing Team to help build awareness, raise much-needed funds for The Stroke Association and to encourage people to take up regular exercise as part of an overall healthy lifestyle. I’ll be doing my bit, and encouraging our employees to do the same so please visit the website and have some fun taking part in Stroke for Stroke 2011.”
Head of Corporate Fundraising at The Stroke Association, James Beeby said: “Stroke for Stroke is now in its fourth year and a campaign like this is integral to raising awareness of how regular exercise and lifestyle choices can help prevent a stroke.  We’ve had fantastic support from the public over the last four years and we’d encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the campaign. Stroke is the second biggest killer in the UK, and so every donation really does go a long way”.
