Barn Elms Rowing Club is set to unveil six new Explore Rowing boats, with a boat-naming ceremony expected to take place on 27 November.

The Thames-based club has received over £12,500 in Explore Rowing funding to purchase a fleet of brand new, stable boats for use in its Learn to Row courses.

The naming ceremony will celebrate the launch of two double sculls and two quads, with the club also using the Explore Rowing grant to purchase two coastal singles for use on the tideway.

Barn Elms RC has already begun to offer Learn to Row courses for adults and juniors, and plans on hosting ‘a variety of new activities which will range from social rowing events to personal challenges, summer heads to tours.’

The club – which is based in Putney and operated by the London Borough of Wandsworth – also provides ‘Sportivate’ courses, using Sport England funding to provide low-cost Learn to Row sessions for 18-25-year-olds.

‘At the courses and sessions there is a great opportunity to meet new people of the same age and ability as well as learning from those who are more experienced,’ junior rower Florence Smart says on the Barn Elms Rowing Club website.

‘Barn Elms is a great place for all ages to learn to row, learn new techniques or take rowing that bit further.’

The club is one of 50 that will receive Explore Rowing funding, designed to enable clubs to offer fun, friendly, and accessible rowing for new and old rowers alike.
