Freeman-Pask triumphs again at Vesta Scullers Head

Imperial College Boat Club sculler Adam Freeman-Pask won the 58th Vesta Scullers Head on Saturday, finishing just a second clear of London Rowing Club’s Henry Pelly.

The 26-year-old – who smashed an ‘unbeatable’ 17-year-old record to win the Wingfield Sculls in October – completed the 4.25-mile course, on the River Thames, in 21 minutes and 9.02 seconds*.

Pelly, who was also competing in Freeman-Pask’s Elite 1x category, finished in 21 minutes and 10.17 seconds.

It proved to be a successful day for Freeman-Pask’s Imperial College team-mates, with five of the top 10 fastest boats on the water representing the London University.

London RC and Tideway Scullers had two rowers apiece in the top 10, but host club Vesta also enjoyed unprecedented success at the 58-year-old event – with the Vesta Women’s squad winning three categories.

GB Rowing Team rower Imogen Walsh was the fastest woman on the water, covering the Championships Course – between Mortlake and Putney – in 22 minutes and 35.86 seconds.

In all, the 2011 Vesta Scullers Head attracted some 528 entries to the Thames, racing across 42 different categories.
