Marlow RC teams up with watersports centre

Marlow Rowing Club (MRC) has teamed up with Longridge watersports centre to offer novices a new way to get involved in rowing.

The club and centre have combined to offer a ‘development pathway’ into rowing, affording Longridge’s rowing newcomers the opportunity to continue their development at an established club.

‘Longridge provides rowing courses primarily during working hours, and last year around 500 people took one of their courses,’ said Club Captain Sally Reay in a statement.

‘However, Longridge cannot offer an ongoing club environment to keep people in the sport, and so only a small number continue with them.

‘[The new agreement] should improve rowing provision in Marlow by coupling the approachability of the Longridge courses with the ongoing support of MRC’s club structure. This will assist MRC in developing a recreational base who can use our club facilities in the quieter mid week period.’

One aspect of British Rowing’s Explore Rowing programme is to engage watersports centres, encouraging participation outside the traditional competitive environment.
