The Boston Marathon has been rescheduled for 1 April 2012, after excess weed forced the postponement of last year’s event.

‘We have received a great deal of support for the holding of the event in Spring,’ said Boston Marathon Hon. Chairman Paul Blackman.

‘With luck we will have good weather in April, and the weed issues that resulted in the cancellation of the 2011 event shouldn’t be a problem.’

The Boston Marathon is one of the highlights of the national rowing calendar, attracting over 200 entries for a 31-mile head of the river race on the River Witham.

Originally scheduled for 18 September, the 65-year-old event had only previously been cancelled once before – during a fuel crisis in 2000.
