World Rowing Awards 2008

This weekend sees the World Rowing Awards 2008 being held at the Gala Dinner in Paris on 8th November. GB Men’s Head Coach Jurgen Grobler is nominated for the World Rowing Coach of the Year award and Christopher Dodd is nominated for the Distinguished Services to International Rowing award. Head of the Charles

The 44th annual Head of the Charles was held on 18th-19th October with over 8,000 rowers partcipating. Although the weather for the two-day regatta was chilly and slightly windy, a new record was set in the women’s double by New Zealand Olympians Emma Twigg and Juliette Haigh. Full story at worldrowing.com

World Rowing Coastal Championships

Italy’s San Remo was the host for the second annual World Coastal Rowing Championships for Clubs on the weekend of 18th October. The event was well attended by coastal and flat water rowers from 16 countries, with France emerging as the most successful nation; scooping four gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the six categories. Next year’s World Coastal Championships for Clubs will be held on 23-25th October 2009 in Plymouth, UK.

  
Armada Cup

This year’s Armada Cup saw nearly six hundred boats enter despite chilly October weather and difficult water conditions. Allar Raja took the men’s title by surprise after favourites Mahe Drysdale and Olaf Tufte struggled with weeds in the water. It was yet another fantastic race for New Zealander Emma Twigg, who came through in style to beat Ekaterina Karsten in the women’s single scullls competition.
